I think that they made it the book of the year because the book really had a bigger meaning. When they chose it for the book of the year they were still getting over what had happened on 9/11, and everyone was feeling the same way about Muslims. So they wanted everyone to read it because the book showed how pointless and cruel it was to do something like that.

In general I dont have a problem with poetry since ive never really been taught it properly. It doesnt really have a part in my life simply because im not into it like that. I think its not taught as much is because its harder than other things that are taught during English class.
I think that the perspectives really change the view of the book because when it changes between perspectives you have to change the way you think and the way you read things because you have to put your self in the other characters shoes. Also it helps set the mood of every part of the book. Like you get two different points of views for the same situation.
"It hit the earth with a quiet thud. She pulled off her gloves and gloves and looked at them. They were no longer white. She dropped them into the whole and picked up the shovel again. She filled up the hole. The sun was hot and the only place there was shade was beneath the trees. The woman was standing beneath the trees. She was forty-one and tired" (otsuka,12). This part of the book sets a different type of mood since the beginning of the book. I mean that because the author was setting a more uplifted mood in order to have full affect when sad things happen. She is preparing the reader for the worst.
I am glad that we got the opportunity to read this book because it has taught me that you can never understand what someone is dealing with until you really gt into their skin and see as they see. The arrticles dont really affect me because im going to live how I want whether people like it or not.
I felt like I was reading a part of their life, when i was reading it i felt a little weird because its their story so me reading it threw me off. I learned that we all have things in our lives that are difficult to deal with. In a way i do feel closer but its not that much because i just read it and didn't really get into character i guess.
If I had to leave my house for a long time I would have to bring a couple pairs of boxers, and other clothing items. I would also bring The gold chain my grandma gave me and the watch my grandpa also gave to me. Also I would have to bring a couple bars of soap just in case.
I think that the reason so many people decide to come to this country and leave everything behind because they want a better life and they know that they cant achieve that in their own country. Also they want their kids to be able to have all the opportunities and chances to be something in life, to learn , & to make a career
I think that if this was to happen in modern day it would really affect everyone by taking them out of school, and work. Also i think a lot of people would be in shock. I dont think this would happen because people today wouldn't just be like ok send me away I think people would fight for their rights. I felt really bad for the kids in the video because they are innocent kids that were born in the United States and were taken of all there rights. Also I was surprised about how peaceful the people were to leave everything behind.
